RESEARCH AND CONFERENCES
Knowledge is power, and knowledge is the basis for building a productive
individual and a developed society. Lebanon’s value is not only in
itsgeographic position and its natural beauty but in the creativity
of its people both inside Lebanon and around the world. The confidence
of the world in Lebanon is based on the success of Lebanese wherever
they have settled. On this basis, the Foundation sponsors a number
of scientific and cultural activities, among which are:
|
Issam Fares Lecture Series at the
University of Balamand, starting in 1999 with a lecture by Dr.
Ismat Abd al-Maguid the former General Secretary of the League
of Arab States. |
|
Conferences on Development in Akkar. |
|
Conferences on Public Education. |
|
Conferences on Agriculture, the
Environment, and other pressing issues. |
The Foundation also sponsors the publication of books and studies
on Akkar, Lebanon, and the Middle East, and the relations of Lebanon
with the world, among which, recently, were: “A Journey to the Levant
- 1615” Henry de Beauveau, and “Akkar: the Hidden Treasures”; both
in cooperation with Dar Nahar publishing house.
Although the Foundation’s main activities are in Lebanon, it also
accords a significant importance to projecting Lebanon to the world.
On the international level, there is the Issam M. Fares Center for
East Mediterranean Studies at Tufts University in Massachusetts, USA,
which focuses on Lebanese and Middle Eastern affairs. In addition,
there is the annual Issam Fares Lecture Series which has featured
presentations by such major figures as, former US President George
H.W. Bush, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, former
French President Valery Giscard d’Estaing, former US Secretary of
State James Baker, US Senator George Mitchell, US Secretary of State
General Colin Powell, and former US President Bill Clinton.
